Fashion Community Foundation
The FCF was created from a desire to share the business of fashion with young people who by circumstance would not otherwise have the opportunity.
With a critical eye for making meaningful connections through fashion, the FCF has designed an integrated program to teach young people the basics of fashion design. This includes sewing and stitching (hard skills) and the art of language and communication (soft skills) to set young people up for independence through tangible work experience.
The goal of FCF is to give young people the beginning of a craft in fashion so that they can become contributing members of society in an industry that craves and values difference. By equipping young people the basics of work and life skills, they will have a hand up in being able to make choices for their futures.
MISSION
The Fashion Community Foundation (FCF) is a pioneering educational initiative comprising a two-semester program that provides underprivileged young people from various backgrounds, such as race, gender, or economic status, a support system to enter the fashion industry that is normally out of reach.
The program consists of two-semesters, each three months in duration. The courses teach fundamental hands-on skills in a safe, supportive and attentive environment, while providing an introduction to fashion design through the use of a sewing machine and hand stitching.
LED BY ESTEEMED PROFESSIONALS
FCF programs are led by experts in the fashion industry who can show the proper steps to success by teaching students how to use tools correctly, and guide with a distinct attention to detail. With a focus on peer learning, the program will organize students into small groups where they can share ideas and learn from one another in a safe and collaborative environment.
ESTABLISHING A CAREER PATH
Tomorrow’s leaders are today’s students. The hands-on practicum and educational skills achieved through this program will be responsible for fostering the growth and guidance of young people who lack opportunity in a less than inclusive industry. Through the addition of supporting internships, it is our hope that this program will lead to meaningful and prosperous careers for all students involved.

Fashion is more than just beautiful clothing. It’s a business, and understanding this principal is essential to each student’s success.
What To Expect
Aside from having knowledge and interest in current fashion trends, program participants must have strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Curriculum
A workbook will be provided that will offer exercises, pictures and explanations as well as space to make notes.
Assessment
In order to qualify for the second semester, students must pass both a written and practical exam focused on hand stitching and sewing.
Faculty
The teachers of the FCF program are fashion professionals with knowledge of stitching and sewing, as well as skills for using a sewing machine and additional tools. They will show students the basics of working with thread and sewing machines, leaving them with the fundamentals to get started in design.
Showcase
At the end of the second semester, FCF will host a fashion show to feature the skills acquired by the students, and invite prospective employers who are looking to hire through internships or fully paid employment.
